2023 marked the highest level of international participation we’ve ever experienced, with over 15 teams joining us from Australia, New Zealand, and American Samoa. This year’s competition was a true test of skill and endurance, featuring the most challenging movements we’ve ever included. For the first time, athletes tackled handstand walks and handstand push-ups, adding a new level of complexity to the events. The increased difficulty showcased the remarkable strength and versatility of the competitors, making for an exhilarating and memorable competition that raised the bar for future events.
2022 saw an overwhelming turnout, with massive participation from local gyms and competitors traveling from American Samoa. Multiple teams from five gyms converged for what became an intense, nail-biting competition that tested the limits of every athlete. The energy was electric, and the community spirit was stronger than ever. Adding to the excitement, this year will always be remembered as the one where love was in the air—a marriage proposal took place on Day 1 of the competition, bringing even more joy to an already unforgettable event. It was a true celebration of fitness, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments that will be talked about for years to come. 💒
With COVID shutting our borders down, we had a huge participation from all of the local gyms in Samoa, making it our biggest Toa to date. The competition atmosphere was electric, as the best of Samoa’s athletes came together to test their limits. It was a close battle in the RX final against a very strong Joe's Gym squad, with both teams displaying incredible resilience and skill. The intensity of the final round kept everyone on the edge of their seats, and it highlighted the growth and competitiveness of our local fitness community. This year's Toa truly showcased the strength and unity of Samoa's athletes, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
This year was the first inclusion of the scaled division into the Toa. We saw huge participation from athletes from within CrossFit Fatu Toa and other gyms. Athletes embraced the challenge, showing incredible determination, teamwork, and progress in their fitness journeys. The scaled division allowed more individuals to experience the excitement of competition while tailoring the intensity to their abilities, leading to personal victories and a sense of community.
This year featured primarily in-house teams, with a few competitors joining us from American Samoa. The atmosphere was electric, and it marked the first real sign of the sport’s growth here in Samoa. The energy and enthusiasm from athletes and spectators alike were palpable, signaling a strong foundation for the future of competitive fitness in our region. This event not only showcased the talent and dedication of local athletes but also highlighted the growing community spirit and the potential for even greater participation in the years to come.
Twelve teams battled it out in fierce competition, including one team from American Samoa and two representing local gyms. The event brought together a diverse group of athletes, all striving for victory and pushing their limits. Each team showcased incredible skill, determination, and teamwork, making it a memorable and exciting contest for both participants and spectators.

Our first Toa ever, all in-house teams. Back then we would assign athletes into teams to make it fun and inclusive. We had just 8 teams in total, each bringing their own energy and enthusiasm to the competition. It was a modest start, but it laid the foundation for what would become an exciting annual tradition. This inaugural event remains a cherished memory, symbolizing the beginning of our journey and the growth of our competitive community.
